LUMI Question - Quizzes

LUMI AI in Brightspace

LUMI is now available inside Brightspace, for faculty only. LUMI leverages Anthropic’s Large Language Model (LLM) Claude by using content provided by the course creator.

SUNY’s agreement with D2L protects Faculty intellectual property by ensuring that:

  • D2L does not own input content
  • D2L does not own output content
  • D2L will not use input content to train their Generative AI models

SUNY’s agreement with D2L requires that users will not represent that output content is human generated when it is not.

LUMI Question - Quizzes

The LUMI Question tool in Brightspace Quizzes provides quick, AI-generated quiz questions based on course content. It assists in creating new quiz question or enhancing existing ones by suggesting relevant prompts.

Open your course in Brightspace, go to the Quizzes tool and at the top of the page, click on the Question Library.

When the question library opens up, click on Generate Questions (LUMI AI icon) toward the top right.

A new page will open with options to select, scroll down to see them all (Content source, Number of questions, Question type and level of Bloom’s Taxonomy).

Click Select Content, to be taken to a new page where you can navigate to the module you want to use use to generate the questions from.

Choose the number of questions you would like generated (3,4,5,6,7,8,9, or 10).

Choose the type of question you would like (Multiple choice, True or False, Written Response, Short Answer or Multi-Select).

Choose the level of Bloom’s Taxonomy you would like to apply (Create, Evaluate, Analyze, Apply, Understand or Remember).

Click on the blue Generate button.

The page will show a blue box while it is generating the questions.

Once the suggested questions are generated, you will need to click on Pending Review for each question. You must review the content of the AI generated questions before they can be added to the question library.

After clicking on Pending Review for the first question, a new review page will open up with the question content. Scroll through the question and the answers and verify that the question is correct and acceptable for student use. Then select Keep and Next (to keep the question and move onto the next question that needs reviewing) or Discard and Next (to get rid of the question and move onto the next question that needs reviewing).

When you get to the last question that needs reviewing, the button will change to Keep and Finish (instead of keep and next). Select that option.

Now that all of the questions have been reviewed, you will see the word Reviewed in green next to the questions. Since they have all been reviewed, the Save to Section button is now active and should be selected.

You now need to select where in the quiz library you will save these questions. If you have sections built, choose the section to put them into. If you do not have sections built, then choose the Create New Section option, give your section a title and Save.

After saving, you will now be inside the section you created (the example is titled “AI Generated Questions”). From here you should select Done Editing Questions on the top right side of the page.

You will now be back to the Quizzes tool main page. To create a quiz with the questions you just created, click on the blue New Quiz button.

Create your quiz the same as you would normally do and when you are ready to add the questions you created, select the blue Add Existing drop-down menu and, in the menu, select Browse Question Library.

When the question library opens up, navigate to the section you previously created and select the box next to it, then click on the blue Import button.

Now you will be back on the quiz page. Update any settings you would like engaged. Click the blue Save and Close button.

You can now find the quiz in you’re the quizzes tool.
