Create an Attendance Register

Attendance registers are entries you can create to track attendance for activities in your course.  You can create attendance registers to track attendance for mandatory chat sessions, classes, weekly seminars, etc.

PLEASE NOTE:  Attendance taken through this tool cannot be associated with Grades.

  1. From the course navigation bar, choose Course Tools and select Course Admin from the drop-down.

  2. Scroll down to Learner Management and select Attendance

  3. Choose New Register.

  4. Enter the Name of the attendance register and other optional properties as needed.

    PLEASE NOTE:  Students are able to see these attendance registers from your course in Brightspace from the Course Tools menu unless the visibility setting is unchecked.

  5. Enter a Session Name. This example uses attendance for Class Meetings.

    PLEASE NOTE: If you try to save a blank session you will receive an error.  Please delete any blank sessions by choosing the trash can to the right. 

  6. To add additional sessions to the register, choose Save (a), enter the number of sessions to be added (b), and click Add Sessions (c).

  7. To return and add or remove sessions at a later time, in the Attendance Registers area choose the drop-down icon to the right of the register and select Edit Register from the drop-down.

Enter Attendance

  1. From the course navigation bar, choose Course Tools and select Course Admin from the drop-down.

  2. Scroll down to Learner Management and select Attendance

  3. Choose the name of register.

  4. Choose the Calendar icon beside session to enter the attendance.

  5. Choose the Attendance Status drop-down to set each student’s status.

  6. Alternatively, set the Attendance Status for students in bulk by selecting multiple students and clicking Set Status.

  7. Choose Save when finished.
