Grade Categories for a Weighted Grade System

Categories in a Weighted grade system can be used to have a group of grade items count for a percentage of the overall course grade. In addition, a category can be set to drop the lowest scores on a particular type of assignment, e.g., the lowest quiz score out of 5 quizzes.

NOTE  - In a weighted grade book, the weights of the categories must all total up to 100. The weights of the items inside the categories must also total up to 100.

Create Categories for a Weighted Grade System

  1. Go to the Grades area.
  2. Select Manage Grades.
  3. Select New [A].
  4. Select Category from the dropdown list [B].

  5. On the New Category page, click within the Name textbox and enter a name for the category.

  6. Determine the appropriate settings for how you would like the Category to work.

  7. When finished, click Save and Close.

NOTE  - In a weighted grade book, the weights of the categories must all total up to 100. The weights of the items inside the categories must also total up to 100.
