Make a call using someone’s name

  1. Select the Call tab in Teams
  2. Enter a name in the “Type a name or number” field
  3. Select the person from the dropdown list
    • Names that will appear in the dropdown list are anyone in the SUNY Cortland address book and those in your contact list
  4. Select the Call button


     

Make a call using a phone number

  1. Select the Call tab in Teams
  2. Enter a phone number in the “Type a name or number” field using your keyboard or by selecting the numbers on the Teams dial pad
    • Use the 10-number format, even for calls to an on-campus desk phone until all on-campus numbers are changed to Teams Calling.
  3. Click the external number dropdown
  4. Select the Call button

Make a call using the History tab

  1. Select the Call tab in Teams
  2. In the History section hover over the time or date of the call
  3. Click the Call button

Make a call using Speed Dial

For information on adding contacts to your speed dial select the link.

  1. Select the Call tab in Teams
  2. In the Speed Dial section hover to the right of person’s name
    Options include Video and Audio call to Teams and the down arrow will show work number as well as other numbers that may have been entered in the Outlook Contacts card

Make calls using Outlook Contacts or Email

 

Call from Outlook Contacts

  1. Select or search for a contact in Outlook Contacts/People the contact card will open.
    Under the contacts name there will be a Call button.
  2. Click Call

Call from Outlook Email

  1. In your Outlook email select an email that you have received or that you are sending and then hover over the name of the email sender (received email) or the name of the email recipient (email you are sending) in the active email pane.

  2. Click Call
    If the contact is on campus the Call button will go to the on-campus Teams phone.
  3. Selecting the down arrow will present the options of an Audio Call, a Video Call, or a Teams Call.

    Any of these options will create a Teams call to your computer with the features of a meeting. However, if the phone number is a cell, personal, or off-campus phone, the call will be made in Teams but will not have meeting features such as screen sharing.
  • If the contact is off campus there will also be a call button, but it will not have an available phone number unless you have already entered it on their contact card

 

 

Calling from a web link

When using the web, frequently phone links will be available for businesses.

  1. When using Teams calling click the phone number link

  • The first time you try to call from Teams you will receive a pop-up asking you to choose which app you use for calling
  • Check the box saying, Always allow and then select Open Pick an app
  • In this dialog box that opens, choose Microsoft Teams and then click Always
  • You will then be asked to open Microsoft Teams. Check the box saying Always allow.


 

2. Every subsequent time you select a phone link then you will only be asked to confirm the phone number:
