Brightspace Discussions

In many of your courses, you will be engaging with other students through discussion boards. Your instructor will usually pose a question, explain a concept, or have you discuss new ideas with the other students in the class.

How To Find Discussions

Click on Discussions in the navigation bar.

This will show you a list of all of the discussions to which you have access.
 

 

Creating A Discussion Thread

The Discussions tool is a collaboration area to post, read and reply to threads on different topics, share thoughts about course materials, ask questions, share files, or work with your peers on assignments and homework.

On the navbar, click Discussions.

Click the topic where you want to create a thread.

Click Start a New Thread.

 

Enter your post.

To receive updates on the thread using your selected notification method, select Subscribe To This Thread.

Select Post if you are not adding any attachments.

If you are adding attachments, in the Attachments area, click Add Attachments.

 

To attach a file, click Upload to locate the file that you want to attach.

To record an audio recording, in the Attachments area, click Record > Record Audio.

To record a video recording, in the Attachments area, click Record > Record Video.

 

If you have pre-recorded audio/video and are using a supported browser, you can drag audio files onto the attachments upload target.

To start recording, select New Recording

To stop recording, select Stop Recording

To add the recording, click Add.

The next screen to populate is titled Media Capture and asks you to label your recording.

Give your media a title.

Give your media description.

Use the pull down menu to select the appropriate language.

Select “Automatically generate captions from audio”

Click Add

 

Now you should see the title of your recording.

The last thing to do is click Post.

 

Replying To A Discussion Thread

On the navbar, click Discussions.

Locate the thread you want to reply to, from the list of threads and click on the title.

 

Click Reply to Thread.

 

Enter your reply in the Brightspace Editor.

To receive updates on the thread using your selected notification method, select Subscribe to this thread.

To attached a file, in the Attachments area, click Add Attachments.

To attach a file, click Upload to locate the file that you want to attach.

To record an audio recording, in the Attachments area, click Record > Record Audio.

To record a video recording, in the Attachments area, click Record > Record Video.

Click Post.
