Adding Microsoft MFA Methods

To add MFA methods, you will need to sign into your SUNY Cortland Microsoft account (https://login.microsoftonline.com).

  1. After navigating the page above, enter your full SUNY Cortland email address (E.g. jane.doe@cortland.edu) and click Next. 
  2. You should be redirected to a Sign in page and prompted to enter your SUNY Cortland password. 
  3. Click the View Account link in the top right corner of the screen.

  1. In the Security info box, click UPDATE INFO

  1. Click Add sign-in method

Security Info. These are the methods you use to sign into your account or reset your password. Select Add sign-in method

Adding Authentication by Text Message

  1. Click Add sign-in method and select Phone from the drop-down box that appears
  2. Enter in the phone number you would like verification codes sent to
  3. A verification code will be sent to your phone. Enter the code into the field that appears. If you do not receive the code, click Resend code

We just sent a 6 digit code to your phone number. Enter the code below. Option to resend code.

Adding the Microsoft Authenticator App

  1. Download the Microsoft Authenticator app from the app store on your mobile device.

  1. Open the Microsoft Authenticator app and select Add work or school account

  1. Enter your full Cortland email address, and verify your identity by text or phone

You can now use the following sign-in methods: Notification approvals and One-Time Password codes. Select Finish

Enrolling a Device

  1. Sometimes during log in process you will be asked to enroll your device

2. Click Next

Keep your account secure. Microsoft Authenticator. Start by getting the app. On yours phone, install the Microsoft Authenticator app. Option to download now. After you install the Microsoft Authenticator app on your device, choose Next. Option to click I want to use a different authenticator app. Option to click next.

3. Install and open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your cell phone then click next

4. Within Microsoft Authenticator app, click Add account

Let's add your first account! For further assisstance, see the help section in the menu. Button to add account. Already have a backup? Sign in to your recovery account. Option to Begin recovery.

5. Click Add work of school account then click Scan a QR code

7. Type number from webpage into Microsoft Authenticator app on phone then click Yes
