Body
These instructions are for a Windows PC computer to be use by Faculty, Staff and/or Student Workers of SUNY Cortland who have permission to use and access networked printers on the Gutenberg Print Server.
These instructions can be completed only by the currently logged-on user of the computer for their use only. Installing a network printer by following these instructions will not install the printer(s) for any and all other users of a computer.
The person following these instructions must have local administrative rights on the computer to install drivers if needed, or have a Staff/Faculty member available who has local administrative rights to assist the user when administrative rights are required to complete the installation.
Please contact The Help Center (THC@Cortland.edu or x2500) for any assistance with these instructions.
Adding a Networked Printer from the Print Server for Windows 10
- From the Windows Desktop of the computer, click on the Start button in the lower left corner of the display (the square divided into four squares).
- Type in: \\gutenberg
Note: The back-slash key needed (\) for this is located on the key above the Enter key on the keyboard. Do Not use the forward-slash key (/) which is on the same key with the question mark (?).
- After pressing the Enter key a File Explorer window will display listing all of the network print queues on the print server Gutenberg. Locate the name of the print queue you need to add to your computer. When you locate the print queue, double click on the name.
- Windows printer installation will appear
- If print drivers are needed on your computer they will be pushed from the server. A pop-up will display:
- Click on Install Driver. This step requires administrator permissions to install the drivers.
- When the installation is completed the local print queue will display. You can click on Printer then click on Set as Default from the menu if this is to be your default printer. After setting as the default or if this is not to be the default printer, the print queue window can be closed. The printer has been added and is available for use.
