Dear Faculty and Staff,
Our campus is joining the SUNY-wide initiative to transition from desk phones to MS Teams Calling. This change will improve communication, simplify support, and reduce costs.
Most users will use Microsoft Teams for calls. We will be working with departments to support needs not met by Microsoft Teams.
We understand that moving away from physical phones may feel like a big shift. Please know that you’ll still be able to make and receive calls just like before, using your same extension and a supplied headset— through Microsoft Teams on your computer or mobile device. For most users, this will be a smoother, more flexible experience.
What’s Changing
- Voicemail and calling will happen through Microsoft Teams
- Calls can be made/received via computer, mobile device, or tablet
- Calls can be made/received from any location
- Headsets/headphones will be used for calls
- The dial pad will be available through Microsoft Teams
What’s Staying the Same
- Your phone extension
- Ability to make internal and external calls
What to Expect
- We’ll offer training, meet with departments, and share updates via email and the project webpage
- A rollout timeline will be shared in early spring.

This project is supported by a cross-functional team from Networking, Systems, Desktop Services, Media Services, and the Help Center. We look forward to working with you to modernize campus communication.
Thank you
