New Remote Access Security Procedure

Sent: Wednesday, 3/26/2025 at 1:42PM

Dear Campus Community,

Per our notice to campus on February 10, 2025, and to enhance information security, reduce risk, and conform to best practices and security guidelines, personal devices will no longer be allowed for remote access to certain protected resources while off campus as of April 1, 2025. This includes both Cisco AnyConnect and Cloudflare Warp clients on personal devices.

As a result, if you used Cisco’s AnyConnect (VPN) on a personally owned device to access a shared drive, your “U” drive, Banner client, OnBase client, or other systems, this will no longer work. If you need to access items in your U-drive, they can be moved to your Cortland OneDrive folder, or you can use a campus-provided laptop via the Cloudflare (Warp) program. Cloudflare (Warp) on campus-provided laptops will allow access to protected resources when remote.

This removal of the Cisco VPN client will not affect access to myRedDragon, Brightspace, email, or most web-based systems. Web application versions of OneDrive, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, and more are available through the myRedDragon portal.

This decision was not reached lightly. In consultation with The President’s Cabinet, Risk Management, and various constituents throughout SUNY, it is the best decision to secure vital digital assets. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our campus secure. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.

Best,
Josh
