Replacing Blackboard collaborations with Microsoft Teams

Dear Faculty & Staff:

We are pleased to announce that the Summer Session 2023 marks a significant milestone for SUNY as we launch SUNY’s Brightspace Digital Learning Environment as the official online learning platform for the University.  As of now, Brightspace will serve as the official platform for all online academic curriculum needs.  Faculty and Staff are encouraged to migrate their academic-related content to Brightspace as soon as possible.  Please visit the DLE webpage and knowledgebase frequently for updates. Recorded trainings can be found here and more sessions will be coming in August.

The transition to Brightspace brings forth opportunities for enhanced collaboration among both internal and external colleagues.  While the previous learning management system accommodated non-academic collaborations, we have found that Brightspace is not optimized for these purposes.  Therefore, all non-academic collaborations will now be shifted to Microsoft Teams (MS Teams). MS Teams is a modern, responsive application that can be accessed seamlessly across desktop, mobile, and the web. It offers an array of features including shared file storage, chat, video conferencing, and much more.

Our Information Resources staff have identified the impacted Blackboard Organizations and are currently working with their respective owners to facilitate the transition to MS Teams. We anticipate completing the organization moves by the end of July.  If you have not yet been contacted and wish to move your non-academic Blackboard Org to Teams immediately, please refer to instructions provided here.

We are confident that these changes will lead to a more streamlined and collaborative experience.  Should you have any questions or require further assistance, please complete submit a request here

Thank you for your cooperation and continued support in the move to a new digital learning environment.

Sincerely,

Ann
