Center of Professional Development General & Technical Points

SUNY Cortland is a member of the SUNY Center for Professional Development (SUNY CPD).  SUNY CPD is a faculty and staff education unit of the State University of New York that offers programs for skill and knowledge development in various instructional technologies/software, and teaching and learning areas. These are usually held in the form of conferences, workshops, online events and trainings, including the annual SUNY Conference on Instructional Technologies (CIT).

Based on the campus’ level of membership, SUNY Cortland receives a limited number of professional development “points”. As a member, CPD provides a limited number of “General” and “Technical” Points (essentially “dollars”) that can be used to offset the cost of a CPD-offered professional development training, workshop, program, and conference.  General points are usually reserved for any CPD non-technical offerings and technical points are reserved for any CPD offerings that are considered technical.

Before requesting points, employees should seek funding from other sources including departmental funds, union grants, program scholarships, etc. Priority will be given to individuals who have not previously received points during the current academic year.  In addition, employees should have received approval from their supervisor and be committed to attending the event and should familiarize themselves with the refund, cancellation and substitution policies of that event.

The process to request the use of general points for a registration to any SUNY CPD-sponsored program, individuals must submit the General Points Request Form found at the top right of this page *before* completing the SUNY CPD registrations process; unless the individual is prepared to cover the cost of the program if there are not enough or any points available.

Once the form has been submitted, it will be sent to your supervisor for approval.  Once the supervisor approves the requests, it will be reviewed by the Information Resources and Provosts office.  If sufficient points are available, the requester will be notified of the approval.  At that time, they can register for the program and “use CPD points” toward the registration fee or enough points available, to cover the total registration fee.

SUNY Cortland reserves the right to hold a number of points for use at specific events such as the annual SUNY Technology Conference and points will be awarded on a first-come, first-serve basis. The University may require participants to pay a portion of the registration fee. Pre-conference fees, meals, travel and lodging are excluded. Any additional fees required by the participant will be noted at registration.
