Ally - Generating Alternative Formats of Documents in Brightspace
What Ally Does
In addition to scanning course documents and generating an accessibility score with step-by-step coaching, Ally also generates alternative formats of course documents.
Currently Brightspace has the ability to produce the following alternative formats of your document:
- HTML for viewing the document on mobile devices
- ePub for reading on Ipads and other e-book readers
- Electronic Braille
- Audio for listening to the document
- BeeLine Reader for faster reading comprehension
- Immersive Reader to assist with grammar and comprehension skills
- Translated version for most world languages
- Tagged PDF for PDF and most Microsoft documents
- OCRed PDF for scanned documents
This document explains how to locate alternative formats of documents generated by Ally.
Locate the Alternative Format Documents
Ally makes it easy to download your preferred document format. To get started, open the course module and locate the document.
- To the right of the document, click on the A and arrow icon.

- Next, click on the radio button next to your preferred document from the drop-down menu and then click on the blue Download button. Please note that not all document formats can be generated for all files. For example, tagged pdfs are presently only available for pdf and Microsoft documents. Also, a document must be scanned to generate an OCRed PDF.

3.A new window will open and may display a moving circle for a large documents. It can take several minutes for Ally to generate the alternative formats for large documents.
4. Your alternative document will download immediately.
